Parks Worker (Full-Time)

City of Chilliwack - Chilliwack, BC

The incumbent in this class assists management to achieve efficient operation of the Parks Section of the Operations Department through reliable performance of all parks related duties observing and complying with municipal policies and safety practices.

As directed you will be responsible for performing a range of non-skilled and semi-skilled horticultural, landscaping, parks maintenance and construction tasks, and will be required to proficiently operate parks equipment as required. You will assist in the repair and maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems and will be required to maintain turf grass with seeding, fertilizing, overseeding, sodding, and all landscaped areas, cultivating grounds, planting flower beds, shrubs, trees, etc., pruning, weeding and under direct supervision, applying herbicide and pesticide, and other related tasks as assigned. Assignments are performed under general supervision in accordance with established routine and performance is subject to review, inspection and evaluation by the Supervisor III.

Turf Technician

Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo - Wood Buffalo, AB

Under general supervision, the Turf Technician performs tasks related to the maintenance, operation and construction of parks and municipal assets. Using technical and educational experience, the work involves interacting with field and supervisory staff, including internal and external stakeholders, to develop and implement programs relating to turf management. Technical skills are required to provide expertise and input to short and long-term work plans, contract administration, development agreements, capital plans, progress reports, and research findings with consequent recommendations. The incumbent will conduct physical tasks including the use of hand and power tools, motor vehicles, and other equipment when required. Poor judgement or errors may result in a negative impact on municipal operations, corporate image, and strategic direction.

Labourer 2 (Parks)

City of Coquitlam - Coquitlam, BC

Our 2023 Labourer 2’s must enjoy working outdoors, performing regular physical activity that is often repetitive in nature in all types of weather. You must further have the physical strength, stamina and coordination to perform heavy labour intensive manual work. If you are looking to perform a variety of construction and maintenance tasks, while also having an opportunity to utilize your skills in operating power and hand tools, we look forward to your application!

These positions will work in a variety of Parks Operations sections including our Sport Services, Urban Forestry, Infrastructure, and Landscape teams. Examples of duties include:

Horticulture/Turf Care Labourer - cutting and maintaining lawns and grounds; planting and maintaining perennials and annuals. Other duties could include assisting in the maintenance of various landscaped, horticultural and turf areas in parks and along road boulevards and medians.

Sport Services Labourer - care and maintenance of sport fields including seeding, irrigating, fertilizing, repairing and cutting turf grass areas. Other duties may include the delivery and clean-up of event supplies and litter in parks and trails.

Urban Forestry – invasive plant removal, planting and maintaining habitat restoration sites, public education and outreach, and trail construction and maintenance.

Infrastructure – park litter control, pressure washing and assisting with the construction, maintenance and replacement of parks infrastructure assets such as playgrounds, fencing, benches and irrigation systems.

Outdoor Maintenance Student

As an Outdoor Maintenance Student in the Parks, Forestry and Cemetery Services Division, your primary

responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Turf: Grass cutting, trimming and general clean-up.
  • Sports: Parks and sports field maintenance, garbage collection, daily washroom maintenance, general repair and upkeep within parks. 
  • Waterloo Park and Special Events: facilitate special events, Eby Farm care and operations, garbage collection, daily washroom maintenance, general repair and upkeep within Waterloo Park.
  • Horticulture: Install and maintain planting beds, planters and hanging baskets. Greenhouse plant careactivities.
  • Forestry: Tree planting, watering, and basic tree care.
  • Cemeteries: Grass cutting, trimming, general clean-up and assist with burials within Parkview and Mount Hope cemeteries.
  • Playgrounds/Splash Pads: Assist with regular inspections and maintenance of playgrounds and splash pads. Grass cutting, trimming and general clean-up.

Supervisor of Parks and Facilities

Township of Georgian Bay - Port Severn, ON

Overview: We are looking for a Supervisor of Parks and Facilities to join our team! This position will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of parks and facilities for the Township and will ensure facilities and open spaces are operated in a safe and efficient manner. The Supervisor of Parks and Facilities will coordinate the activities of Parks and Facilities team members.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Organize and supervise the maintenance and operation of facilities, parkland, sports fields, arena, ice surfaces, docks and boat launches, cemeteries, open spaces, naturalized areas, and horticultural areas.

  • Responsible for the planning, design, development, and project management for all aspects of the parks and open spaces in our growing community, including active and passive parks, and on/off road trails systems.
  • Coordinate tree and turf maintenance and planting within parks and the cemetery.
  • Working with the Supervisor of Roads and Fleet, develop and implement an effective repair and preventative maintenance program of turf maintenance equipment, small- engine equipment, and other specialized equipment.
  • Provide asset management data and assist with the development of short and long-term maintenance strategies.
  • Assist the Director of Operations in preparing and/or providing recommendations regarding the capital and operating budgets.
  • Train staff and foster a positive working environment. Provide coaching and mentoring to staff through constructive feedback and performance management, in line with Township policies and provisions of the collective agreement.
  • Participate in the recruitment process of Parks and Facilities staff.
  • Lead the development and review of standard operating procedures and Emergency
  • Response Procedures, and ensure staff are provided with training.

Cemetery Services

General maintenance of harbour areas including dock installations and repairs, launching of boats, waste tank pump-outs, etc.

Horticulture
Horticultural maintenance, planting and maintenance of horticultural displays.

Sportsfields
Sports field maintenance including daily maintenance, inspections and repairs.

Environmental Services (Sanitation)
Daily waste collection in parks Town-wide. Opening/closing and cleaning of park washrooms.

Technical Services
Inspection or repair of playgrounds and trails. Assist staff with special event setup. Litter, brush and garbage control and pick-up.

Turf
Involved with all aspects of the daily grass cutting town wide.

Urban Forestry
Involves the watering, pruning, removing, planting, mulching, weeding, staking and de-staking, and maintaining young trees on a scheduled basis.
